I've had fairly good luck with 2.6.9 personally, but I did not use any of the
previous 2.6.x releases.
Also, no one is forcing you to use 2.6.9: you could use 2.6.7 or 2.6.4 if you'd
like. And as you probably know, 2.6.10 will be out shortly.
Although this is not the place for this discussion, I'd be interested to hear
exactly what your complaints are with the 2.6.9 kernel. Being that over 99%
of the code is THE SAME, I would bet that the problems are based more in an
inability to properly configure the kernel than anything else.
If you do continue to use the 2.4.x series, I have unfortunate news: New patches
and backports are not coming. The man-power just does not exist with our current
team to sustain versions for both series kernel. As this is an open-source project,
I would encourage you, or anyone else reading this, to download the source and
backport it for us. Then contribute the code back to us so that others may benifit
from your hard work.
