Hmm, weird. Ntfsclone should have reported "Cluster accounting failed" error
because it doesn't support yet the backup boot sector in the middle, only ntfsresize
supports that. I just wanted to add that support to ntfsclone now ...
I think SystemRescueCD (tempfs) uses only half of the RAM as the root filesystem,
moreover ntfsclone temporarily needs more space then it wipes out (zeros) all
the non-needed and user data even from the metadata thus it can be compressed
much better.
Yes, System Rescue CD is an excellent choice :)
Cygwin, BeOS aren't ok.
So it seems the only way left is to save NTFS metadata into itself.
I'll get back to you a bit later, after some preparation ...
Are you sure that ntfsresize --info reports backup boot sector meanwhile ntfsclone
--metadata doesn't report any error?
