ntfsclone --save-image --output - device | split -b 600M

ntfsclone 1.9.4 is needed for the --save-image option.

'split'  creates 'sort'-able files by name. By default 'ls' sorts  files by
name and cat can maerge them. So one possible way is:

cat `/bin/ls` | ntfsclone  --restore-image --overwrite device -

Would it be possible to restore one portion of the file at a time?  If the image
is split across CDs, without a large ramdrive, there wouldn't be enough room
to merge the files then restore them.  Unless I knew before hand that the computer
had 2 hard drives and only one was being restored.

Same answer: no need for merge them on a storage. The recovery can work
on-the-fly:
                                                                           
   <your_software> | ntfsclone --restore-image --overwrite <device> -
                                                                           
The <your_software> can be anything, for example doing this
                                                                           
  1) asking the user to put in the CD
  2) check the CD is the correct one
  3) read to CD and write to stdout for ntfsclone
  4) if not all CD were processed then goto 1)
