Just in case anyone else ever does a search for this issue and ends up here
as I did, there is an easier way to set permissions as long, as was said, the
files and folders aren't encrypted. I have no idea how to get around that as
I really haven't brain farted that hard yet.
You must have administrator rights to perform this task:
Right click folder >> Security Tab >> Advanced Button >> Owner Tab >> Highlight
Your Account >> Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" >> Click
OK >> Click OK.
