That wouldn't be a problem but the lack of /etc/mtab is.

the ntfsresize FAQ, e.g.:
Bad:
Leka - has problems checking mount state
BootE - doesn't support DOS floppys
Tomsrtbt - can't handle partition bigger than 2 GB
Good:
Zool - sucessful reports
Boot floppys created during Linux installations by major distros
