[Linux-NTFS-Dev] ntfs mount

hi,

i want to  mount windows 2000's ntfs 5 partion, but i can't do that .
i use kernel 2.4.7-10 of redhat 7.2, does this kernel support this mount?

the driver that ships with 7.2 for NTFS is bad.  Very,
very bad driver.  That is why out of the box you
cannot mount an NTFS volume.

However, you can recompile the kernel to include NTFS
READ ONLY (do NOT enable WRITE) support, and do this
as a MODULE (do NOT add NTFS Read into the kernel)
only.

The first link there is a PDF document I wrote
covering recompiling the kernel (specifically for data
forensics work, but the steps and screen shots are
there).

Also, I would recommend grabbing the NTFS driver from
this list you're subscribed to.  It's much newer and
more stable than the one on the 7.2 distro.

What?  There have been bug fixes and inprovements to
the driver since 2.4.7, but nothing to justify this statement.

Why?  It doesn't affect how the driver works.

This list is meant to be a help forum and all you
are doing is making ill-informed statements which will
only confuse people.

Now you start promoting your own work.  Did you read my
help file?  It refers to the Kernel HOWTO.  This is the
definitive reference for beginners.

A short browse of your document and you contradict yourself.
Your example shows NTFS being compiled into the kernel.

The NTFS driver is part of the kernel.  The only thing we
offer for download is the new driver which is for 2.5 only.
There are, however, plenty of good reasons for upgrading,
probably straight to 2.4.18.
