What? There have been bug fixes and inprovements to
the driver since 2.4.7, but nothing to justify this statement.

Now you start promoting your own work. Did you read my
help file? It refers to the Kernel HOWTO. This is the
definitive reference for beginners.

A short browse of your document and you contradict yourself.
Your example shows NTFS being compiled into the kernel.

The NTFS driver is part of the kernel. The only thing we
offer for download is the new driver which is for 2.5 only.
There are, however, plenty of good reasons for upgrading,
probably straight to 2.4.18.
