Good question... I've never used encryption or signatures, but I *think* PGP can use non-free encryption standards, and for obvious reasons GNU PG cannot decrypt these. So the answer to your question is: Either use GNU PG on both ends or ensure that PGP will only use those encryption standards that GNU PG can use as well.
