I've been struggling with this for some time...
Cannot get luns to map to devices consistently
for example, lun 6 might map to /dev/sdl and the next time the daemon is
started it might map to /dev/sdo
Can anyone point me to what I might be doing wrong?

What distro are you using? You should not rely on those scsi device
names. In most newer distros, udev will make persistent ones in /dev/disk/.
