It's fairly common to have two separate licenses for profit and non-profit use. This is AFAIK the only "common" type of license that differentiates based on the way a third party wants to use the product plus it's pretty clearly easy for someone to know which one they are. You might want to put up your non-profit/educational license on the website as well.. on the other hand of course the FSF thinks that licenses that discriminate based on usage is not a good thing, and I tend to agree. Putting it under the GPL will ensure that even if a company uses it somehow to profit, they must return the changes to the public community, benefiting everyone. BSD is also a good license for a public institution to use, since it allows companies (e.g. Indian companies) to benefit fromthe code as well. simon On Friday, December 27, 2002, at 03:32 AM, S.
