When it asks for a primary address, it wants the address of the device you
want to talk to as opposed to the address you gave to your interface board
(which I am assuming is 0).  Could you send me your /etc/gpib.conf file
and the output of your kernel log after your try to run ibtest (use the
'dmesg' command).

Go into the drivers subdirectory, and delete the 'board' symbolic link.
Make it point to the nec7210 directory instead of cbi4882.  It's a bug in
the util/Setup.in script.  Or, you might be better waiting until Monday
and using 3.1.1 when I release it since a lot of changes have been made (I
should be able to get it out over the weekend).

You also have to set the board's irq and dma channel with the
switches/jumpers.  The PCII/IIa board also has a jumper or something to
switch it between PCII mode and PCIIa mode.  There is probably a manual
for it somewhere no national instrument's web site.

[Linux-gpib-general] NI PCIIa: trouble running it

Hello Frank,

i want to use a NI PCII/IIa card with the gpib-package on a Redhat 7.2
System with a kernel 2.4.17 from kernel.org
This computer has limited harddisk space, so i am running a extremly
tiny installation => no X, no gcc ...
I compiled linux-gpib for this card on an other linux machine(same
source for kernel!) and copied all compiled files to the measurement
computer ... (including gpib.conf, mknod master libgpib.a)
On the measurement computer i can insmod gpib-common and gpib0, but the
computer has trouble "becoming active controller"!
ibchk freeses directly after "Check if Board present  OK"
How can i check the installation?
The README.PCIIA describes the two address switches on the card, what
about the other switches and jumpers?

Ray,

The board uses a cb7210.2 chip, which takes up the first 8 io
addresses, and for which some docs are available at

It also uses a cbi488.2 chip for its high-speed mode (it doesn't need to
be used for nec7210 compatibility mode), which takes up offsets 8 and 9
from the base address.  I have a fax with some cbi488.2 info in it, but
haven't converted it to electronic form yet.

What version of the driver are you working on?  I've made a lot of changes
to the cvs and it might not be worth spending much time modifying the
older versions.  I am rolling support for all the computer boards stuff
into the generic nec7210 driver, which is currently working (on and off as
I make changes) with my isa pc2a board.  I put some support for the
computer boards PCI-GPIB but I'm not sure if that's working yet.

Okay, the unresolved symbol problem is fixed in cvs, see
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=42378 to access it.  There might also
be another problem however.  The old driver was a bit confused about
whether the pci-gpib card used ioports or memory mapped io.  I coded it to
use ioports, but it was just a guess.  If you could send me the output of
'lspci -v' it would be helpful.
