You might also try a fb-compatible driver from Nick Kurshev distributed with
the mplayer-project.

The problem with the .18 radeonfb driver is that it doesn't handle crtc2
gracefully and after mode switches will get confused about which head is the
first and which is the second.

Altough, if the official .18-version works for you, you should use it, the
palette handling is better in that version.

I have an ATI Radeon QY VE(PCI) video card, and use
the frame buffer device driver radeonfb on kernel
