i don't think this is the problem, i have the same issue with 2.2.19 kernal
at least :
When i insmod my fb driver (i think i saw the same pb with matroxfb) the
text printed in the console
*before* insmoding is not printed once the fb driver takes control ...

I don't know if this is a bug in Scott's  (and my) driver, or if this is a
limitation of the fb framework ...
