I have the impression that some of the card vendors are thinking about
or have started to use DMA in some of their Xservers. 

There is not a common API for access to the DMA...
Will the fbcon and the Xserver be stepping on each others use of DMA?
Or am I looking for an issue that does not exist?


What is driving the need to accelerate the console?
