I don't have a 'check_var'. It's vanilla 2.2/2.4
fbcon (using fbgen, no less ;-)

I'll port to Ruby as soon as BenH update his PPC
tree to 2.4.5+ (2.4.5pre3-* hasn't all the required
symbol for current Ruby, and 2.4.5-linus doesn't
compile on my box...)
