[Linux-fbdev-users] Error: /dev/fb0: No such device

Hello ,

I  compiled the kernel with the VESA frame buffer
driver and made changes in lilo.conf by adding
VGA=ask in addition to other standard enteries.

The system booted ok , it asked for which mode I gave
80*43 and everything was working fine. After logging
in as root , I gave the command

cp /dev/fb0 screen

It gave a error

/dev/fb0 : No such device

The documentation said that you can use /dev/fb0 in
the same way as /dev/mem .

Am I missing something ?
