[Linux-fbdev-users] Project update, new website

Hi,

since my own project wyoDesktop "http://wyodesktop.sourceforge.net/"
depends on many and good framebuffer drivers and linux-fbdev looked a
little outdated I volunteered to take care of it. So far I've remove
hopefully all spam messages from the mailing lists and will try to keep
them clean. I also installed a new web site
"http://linux-fbdev.sourceforge.net/", the old one is still available
under "http://linux-fbdev.sourceforge.net/old/". 

Some questions about the new site:
- The new driver list is just a draft of the old list. If you are the
maintainer of framebuffer driver and you or your driver isn't listed,
post the information here or to me.
- I haven't installed CVS access for any driver so far, if you would
like it for your driver just say so. To see how it goes, have a look at
the wxCode project "http://wxcode.sourceforge.net/".
- Any documentation is missing, please inform me what and where.
- Any driver status information is missing, ditto.

I hope this update motivates anyone, developers and users, to renew any
effort to increase quality and quantity of the framebuffer drivers. If
anyone has some spare time and wants to help out just post a message
here or direct to me.

This is sorely needed. A good start would probably be a functionality
chart of the different fb drivers. 

Eg. the radeon driver seems to be mac hardware oriented, and doesn't
like nonstandard resolution modes provided to it at start.

I intend to change the status page into a functionality chart. First I
have to know which functionality exists and are important enough to be
listed. Any imput is welcomed.

Please either submit this again as a bug or a feature request in about a
month when the trackers are correctly set up or send a new message which
mentions "radeonfb" in the subject so a driver maintainer immediately
sees the messages for his drivers.

Suggestion:

A.  Common to all:

Hardware:
1. color depths and color visuals supported
2. can the driver pan on the y-axis?
3. can the driver pan on the x-axis?
4. can the hardware state be changed (ie with fbset)?
5. access to framebuffer (fb_read/fb_write/mmap)
6. access to MMIO space

Console:
1. can it accelerate imageblit (font drawing)
2. can it accelerate copyarea (block transfers)
3. can it accelerate fillrect (block sets)

Video Mode setting:
1. How is the video mode set (more than 1 can be chosen)?
	a. at driver load
	b. user-specified modelines (ie. fbset)
	c. global mode database
	d. EDID/private mode database
	e. EDID/GTF calculation
	f. driver-specific method

B. Miscellaneous:
	a. support for interrupts on vsync/vblank
	b. ioctl for vsync/vblank
