I am using i865G and 2.6 kernel series and I would like to use pivot. (Us= e my monitor in portrait.) It seems the options available are quite thin for m= e: - Xrandr rotation doesn't generally work on Linux platform - i810fb doesn't recognize my i865G=20 - intelfb hasn't been ported to 2.6 series - Intel's version of the driver doesn't support rotation - VesaFB. Works. VesaFB works alright as long as I don't rotate the view. When I rotate th= e performance turns (understandably) completely horrible. 1280x1024x16 rota= ted CCW is extremely slow and practically not usable at all. Is there or will there be any sorts of development that will remedy the situation? |

I'd really like to finally delve into the kbuild facility of the 2.6 kernels and document it here, so everybody can try out new framebuffer drivers or build the DirectFB fusion driver. But as long as my problem persist I can't switch to the 2.6 kernel. Of course a patch which solves my problems would be much better. > [2] I need a patch to be able to force 1280x1024 at boot, but I guess it's > A really simple workaround, which works with any framebuffer, is to put a "/usr/sbin/fbset -a 1280x1024-60" into your "/etc/profile". I have a Radeon 7500 QW (PCI ID 5157) which works just fine on both DVI and VGA, though it was my experience that it liked a 61 Hz refresh rate better for 1280x1024 on VGA. You might try booting with 'video=radeonfb:1280x1024@61' or similar. My card is drunk and reports the DFP size as 1024x768, but the monitor has a correct EDID block and the new I2C/DDC code initializes it just fine on its own in 2.6. -- Chad Daelhousen My opinions are my own, unless UB purchases my soul. |

I am the happy owner of an (ATI Radeon 9200-based) HIS Excalibur 9200 ViVo [1], which I chose for these very reasons (fanless, DVI, low price). Now works fine with both 2.4 [2] and 2.6 kernels as far as I am concerned, but I'm not much into performance tweaks or fancy stuff. All I really care is the high number of rows and columns. I may run tests in case you want to make sure that the card qualifies as "best framebuffer supported graphics", you just have to ask. However, I doubt that support for your current Radeon 7500 card cannot be brought back, especially if it works OK with 2.4 kernels. Changing hardware to workaround software issues doesn't sound like a good policy ;) [1] http://www.hisdigital.com/html/9200vivo.htm [2] I need a patch to be able to force 1280x1024 at boot, but I guess it's related to my flat panel display returning incorrect information, not to the graphics adapter itself. -- Jean "Khali" Delvare http://khali.linux-fr.org/ |

Neither sets the radeonfb driver the resolution correct (still 80x25 chars) nor is it possible to use fbset (screen unreadable). I've removed all the others framebuffer drivers so only radeonfb is used but with no effect. I've also tried both DVI and VGA but both shows the same effect. Hi all, I'd like to know if it would be possible to run a 1920x1200 framebuffer console, on a 2.6.x series kernel, and with a nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go. For now, I have a 1600x1200 console which leaves vertical black bars on each side of the screen, and I'd like to use the whole available screen area. Vesafb does not seem to include such a resolution, while rivafb does not want to display anything else than a black screen (as far as I tried, with a 2.6.8) Does anybody has already done this? Hi all! Is it possible to use multiple graphic cards (i.e. a AGP G200 and a pair of PCI Milennium II) and to visualize multiple framebuffers *simultaneously*? All I want to do is to use a text console or X on the G200 (/dev/fb0) and to visualize some application's output on /dev/fb1 and /dev/fb2 without having to switch console and, above all, avoiding the system to blank consoles without focus (i.e., while in X on /dev/fb0 it would be useful to do something like "tail /var/log/messages > /dev/tty12" where tty12 could be bind to /dev/fb2). Thanks. --Niteowl |

Hi, I would like to know why the vesafb driver does not support: Changing the screen resolution via fbset Double buffering by altering the yoffset virtual to visible resolution parameter. I have used a matrox card and been able to use these featues but having bought an NVidia card I was suprised that they weren't supported. Are these features to be added into the vesafb driver? I don't understand why they aren't supported... If anyone can help I would be much appreciative :-) Ian --------------------------------- ALL-NEW Yahoo! Hi, since my own project wyoDesktop "http://wyodesktop.sourceforge.net/" depends on many and good framebuffer drivers and linux-fbdev looked a little outdated I volunteered to take care of it. So far I've remove hopefully all spam messages from the mailing lists and will try to keep them clean. I also installed a new web site "http://linux-fbdev.sourceforge.net/", the old one is still available under "http://linux-fbdev.sourceforge.net/old/". Some questions about the new site: - The new driver list is just a draft of the old list. If you are the maintainer of framebuffer driver and you or your driver isn't listed, post the information here or to me. - I haven't installed CVS access for any driver so far, if you would like it for your driver just say so. To see how it goes, have a look at the wxCode project "http://wxcode.sourceforge.net/". - Any documentation is missing, please inform me what and where. - Any driver status information is missing, ditto. I hope this update motivates anyone, developers and users, to renew any effort to increase quality and quantity of the framebuffer drivers. If anyone has some spare time and wants to help out just post a message here or direct to me. O. Wyss -- See a huge pile of work at "http://wyodesktop.sourceforge.net/" |

I've compiled a ruby kernel (linux-2.6.7-1) and booted it. It inits my 2 framebuffer devices and creates 2 dummy virtual consoles. I don't understand how to tell my framebuffer application (XDirectFB, an X server using the DirectFB framebuffer library), which virtual console/terminal to use. All I know is which framebuffer device each card is. I know how to tell XDirectFB which fb device to use. I don't know how that framebuffer device translates into virtual terminals or consoles, or any of that. What settings do I activate to get a specific frame buffer device to be on a specific virtual console/terminal so that applications using that fb device don't monopolize all the displays? :) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I have a machine with 2 graphics cards (SiS 630 & ATI Radeon). I would like to run a regular XFree86 server on one card, but use the framebuffer support on the other card (I don't care which card I use for which). I can use both cards under XFree86 using Xinerama. I've compiled a 2.6.7 kernel with framebuffer support for both cards. The kernel automatically activates framebuffer support for both. But, when the SiS card is the card initialized by the BIOS, the Radeon card registers as having 0k of videoram (it has 32MB in reality). When I set the BIOS to init the radeon card, Linux successfully activates framebuffering for both. I can run a regular XFree86 server on the radeon card, and I can startup an XDirectFB (X server using the DirectFB framebuffer library) server on the SiS card. However, when I do that, the XFree86 server disappears and the XDirectFB server has a weird shadowing effect on everything (I've tried changing fb modes using fbset but it just makes the screen completely unreadable). I have run the XFree86 server and the XDirectFB server separately on one card, without any problems. Is it possible to run a regular XFree86 server on one card and a framebuffer app on another with both still showing? If yes how? (I only need my keyboard/mouse to work on one server) Is is possible to run two separate framebuffer apps, one on each card, and have both show up? If yes, I could just run two XDirectFB servers instead. :) PS: should I try using the (backstreet) ruby kernel patch? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
