AIUI the mopd in Linux was originally written for NetBSD so they could boot the VAX port. It was then ported to Linux by I know not whom. Incidentally there seems to be a bug in that version that breaks mopd -a on machines with more than one ethernet card. The Linux/MIPS guys have done some nice mods to it so that it can boot ELF images direct without having to preprocess them first (I forget the URL but I can find it (or provide binaries) if anyone's interested.) I use mopd to boot my DECserver 200 as well as my MIPS DECstation (for some reason Linux 2.4 sets the frag bit on all UDP packets which it doesn't like so I can't use bootp). My LATD package has a moprc program (written from the specs you mention) which allows a Linux user to remotely manage terminal servers and trigger remote boots of machines too. -- patrick |
