John,
As I remember right, not every Cisco ATM interface supports LANE, please
check out your interface documentation. We have a PA-A3-OC3MM installed in a
7204, which works fine as a LEC.
BTW, you must not setup virtual interfaces on the atm interfaces to
configure LANE. Here is a quote from our 7204 (running IOS 12.1):
-----------------8<---------------------
F15WR01#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
F15WR01(config)#int atm 3/0
F15WR01(config-if)#lane ?
auto-config-atm-address Bind the auto generated LECS address
bus-atm-address Set BUS's ATM address
client Create a LAN Emulation Client
client-atm-address Set the LE Client ATM address
config target the command at the Config Server (LECS)
config-atm-address Bind a specific LECS address
fixed-config-atm-address Let the LECS listen on the well known address IF
master
fssrp make LANE run in the fast SSRP mode
global-lecs-address enter a backup/spare LECS address in the system
le-arp Add a lan destination to NSAP mapping in the
LE-ARP
table
server-atm-address set Server's (LES) ATM address
server-bus LAN Emulation Server & Broadcast and Unknown
Server
F15WR01(config-if)#lane
