A real database to store all sorts of settings in. The
database server can be reused for all kinds of other of
applications.
Pro: Fast reading and booting now need to parse
hundreds of textfiles scattered all over the HD.
Pro: Reuse of databse server for other purposes.
Con: Unix ppl don't like it. However GNOME also has a
central settings storage system. But forget ppl with
their 40 year old OS design.

Also to have a good backup strategy of the registry it
should be able to be backed up to a plain text file as
(encrypted) SQL or XML formats.
