Monkey sees the X3 Live but GearBox doesn't understand it. I'm gonna sound completely stupid since I have no idea how this stuff works, but reading through some of the source code and product manuals on older products, it looks like communication with the POD is all done via MIDI. I sent a private message to Line6Miller on the user discussion groups asking for an update MIDI CC Reference Chart for the X3/X3 Live, but I'm not sure if they just hand that out. I assume that's what'd be needed to update the line6usb linux driver. I've contemplated building something using Cocoa in OS X that just does some simple slider controls to communicate with the X3's MIDI interface. But, since I've never done any MIDI programming in the past, I'm not sure how easy/hard it'd be. And, of course that'd be using the OS X Line 6 drivers. The other option for me would be to do the same thing using Gtk in linux; or just wait until January '08 for Line 6 to release a newer version of GearBox that works in OS X. Are there already existing MIDI apps (free/open source ones) that would let you tweak the X3's interface? Boyd |
