OK, I think I'm getting somewhere...

I downloaded and booted the latest Ubuntu image via USB stick. I'm able to record from the HD300 using arecord. I'm not sure of the quality, if it is stereo, etc, but it is a start.

I noticed the Ubuntu system was running linux 3.5.0. I wonder if that has something to do with it.  I'm going to look into upgrading my kernel in the Mint install I have and see what comes of it.

<rant>I hate the thought of moving to Ubuntu. This was a good reminder of how badly I loathe the unity interface!</rant>
