It is not visible by JACK too. I just checked with the most recent version from the subversion trunk, and playback, capture, and the mixer all worked without problems under Linux kernel 3.4.11. Here are some things you could try: *) If the device is plugged into a USB hub, plug it directly into a USB port of your computer instead. *) Try to plug the device into different USB ports. *) If you have a Windows installation on the same computer, check whether the device works with the native Line6 software. *) execute the script "sysinfo.sh" contained in the driver source directory as root and send its output "sysinfo.txt" to me. Dear my POD-mate, I have a driver problem vith my PODxt Pro device. Sort description: PODxt Pro does not show up as a sound card, but its line6usb module loaded by device connection. The mixer also can not show the POD. It is not visible by JACK too. Long description: I have Fedora 17 x86_64 Linux but I tried out the latest Ubuntu studio live as well. I tried to install and use line6usb modules provided from rpmfusion and I compiled some by myself too. None of them were working. I tried out all possible scenario with different kernel version. For example, I disabled the MainBoard sound card in BIOS and used only the POD as usb device. The last time, i installed I have the /usr/lib/modules/3.6.10-2.fc17.x86_64/extra/staging/line6usb.ko module, which come from kmod-staging-3.6.10-2.fc17.x86_64-3.6.1-1.fc17.10.x86_64 package If you have similar problem or solution, please help me. The syslog says, the PODxt Pro detected and OK! It crashed the first time I plugged it in. I compiled the trunk version as well on a different kernel and that is working nicely as well. Its really awesome to have the UX2 working in my favorite OS :) I will do some real testing and recording after the holidays and report any bugs etc.. Thanks Again!! Neil |

I just merged it with the trunk, so it should compile again, but I didn't test it right now (it might do anything from nothing to crashing your machine). However, basic UX2 support is in the trunk as well, so I recommend that you try the trunk version first. Kind regards, Markus |

I downloaded and booted the latest Ubuntu image via USB stick. I'm able to record from the HD300 using arecord. I'm not sure of the quality, if it is stereo, etc, but it is a start. I noticed the Ubuntu system was running linux 3.5.0. I wonder if that has something to do with it. I'm going to look into upgrading my kernel in the Mint install I have and see what comes of it. <rant>I hate the thought of moving to Ubuntu. This was a good reminder of how badly I loathe the unity interface!</rant> |

Hi everybody, I have a Pod Studio UX2 and just recently discovered this project so I'm trying to install the latest driver from https://line6linux.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/line6linux/driver/branches/ux2. Do > you get > similar messages ("New USB device found" etc.) when you plug in other > USB > devices? > I admit I'm not well endowed as far as USB devices go. I did find this, which explains the difference beteween UHCI, OHCI, and EHCI: http://www.linux-usb.org/FAQ.html Excerpt: --snip--snip-- First, you need to know what kind of USB "Host Controller" hardware you have. Mainstream hardware has one of three kinds, named after the hardware register-level "Host Controller Interface" (HCI) they implement. The first one was Intel's "Universal" HCI (UHCI). That type of controller doesn't do very much in hardware, which makes the software do more work (and need more memory). Most controllers on Intel or Via chipsets use UHCI. The second kind of USB 1.1 host controller was organized by Compaq and several other companies, and had fewer "Intellectual Property" restrictions. That was called the "Open" HCI (OHCI), and does quite a bit more of USB in hardware. Learning that two kinds of register interface was one too many, USB 2.0 defined just one, with much less legal encumbrance. The third, and newest, kind is the "Enhanced" HCI (EHCI), and is the only kind used to talk to high speed devices. You can tell which kind you have by output of lspci -v|grep HCI: --snip--snip-- lspci shows that I have 4 UHCI controllers, and 1 EHCI controller, although I can't find the EHCI controller. I've plugged into every port on the PC and get the same uhci_hcd message each time. I'm thinking about trying the latest ubuntu on a memory stick to see if I get anywhere. I *think* Mint and Ubuntu are using the same kernel, but I can't be sure. Thanks for all the help! - Greg |

Interestingly, even before entering the line6usb module, the kernel reports some details about the device (lines containing "usb 2-2:"), which is not the case in your log file. Do you get similar messages ("New USB device found" etc.) when you plug in other USB devices? Kind regards, Markus |

I reverted to that version (deleted the compiled version I was using previously), and it does output to dmesg as follows: [ 118.281846] line6usb: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned. [ 118.284168] line6usb driver version 0.9.1beta (revision 690) [ 118.284237] usbcore: registered new interface driver line6usb Still, nothing to be found in /proc/asound. Also, the module was *not* automatically inserted on reboot, and instead required a manual activation. I'll fiddle with it some more and see where it goes. -- Greg |

Look up the line starting with "static int line6_probe" in driver.c and more or less randomly add the line printk("%s:%d", __FILE__, __LINE__); to the code. If you pick a location where it is not allowed, the compiler will tell you. Most interesting is close to "if(...)" statements to see which decisions are made by the driver. Alternatively, this can be done fully automatically as described here: https://line6linux.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/line6linux/driver/trunk/checkpoint/README.txt However, I didn't test this for a while, it may or may not work with your kernel version. However, the differences between them are mostly cosmetic and should not cause the driver to work with one version and fail with the other. For the sake of completeness, you can try to use the driver module that comes installed with your kernel binaries (unless Linux Mint omits the staging drivers) or compile the driver from the git sources. To make sure that a particular driver gets loaded, you can unload the current Line6 driver module ("rmmod line6usb") and load the new module by its absolute path ("insmod /path/to/line6/driver/line6sub.ko"). This is not persistent, i.e., when the kernel tries to automatically load the module (after a reboot or after unloading the module), it will always search in "/lib/modules/...". Aside from that, as Stefan suggested, putting some "printk()" in the code and see in the system log file whether these statements are reached is probably the easiest way to figure out what's going wrong. However, the module is installing when I plug the device in. Yet, there are no logfiles indicating it that I can find. Anyway, here is what the modules.alias file includes: --snip--snip-- ... alias usb:v0E41p5057d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* line6usb ... --snip--snip-- It was there, with the exception of the "in*". I have no explanation - the output you posted suggests that the driver is not matching the device you plugged in. Therefore you don't get the "Line6 POD HD300 found" message that you normally see at the very beginning when the device is detected. I suggest you do the following to further debug what is going on: Please check that you have the following line in /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/modules.alias: alias usb:v0E41p5057d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip*in* line6usb This is normally automatically added when you install the kernel module. It's how the system knows to load the line6usb driver when you plug in the POD HD300. Once you're sure the modules.alias line is there, restart your computer and don't manually modprobe the driver. When you plug in the POD the driver should be automatically loaded - you can check with lsmod | grep line6usb. Now check dmesg and see if there is a "Line6 POD HD300 found" message or anything else about line6 or the USB device. If the module is being loaded but you're getting no dmesg logs about it, double-check that your dmesg log level allows dev_info() messages through (please search for how to do this, I can't remember). Then the next step would be to add a printk() to drivers/staging/line6/driver.c:line6_probe() so we know the kernel is asking the line6 driver to try the new device. Stefan |

I have an HD300 that simply will not work with linux. System: Linux Mint 13 "Maya", Kernel 3.2.0-23. I have the output of sysinfo.sh below for more info. I plug the HD300 in. The system detects a new USB device, and an lsmod shows the driver loads: line6usb 82196 0 snd_pcm 80845 4 line6usb,snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec,snd_usb_audio snd_rawmidi 25424 4 line6usb,snd_ca0106,snd_usbmidi_lib,snd_seq_midi snd 62064 15 line6usb,snd_ca0106,snd_ac97_codec,snd_usb_audio,snd_hwdep,snd_usbmidi_lib,snd_pcm,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device However, I cannot see the audio interfaces at all, anywhere, including in /proc/asound. I see the following in /var/log/syslog when I plug the HD300 in: <blockquote> Dec 16 21:10:08 minion kernel: [98107.288113] usb 5-1: new full-speed USB device number 8 using uhci_hcd Dec 16 21:10:08 minion mtp-probe: checking bus 5, device 8: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.3/usb5/5-1" Dec 16 21:10:08 minion mtp-probe: bus: 5, device: 8 was not an MTP device </blockquote> Any clues? ################################################################## ################################################################## -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- output of "uname -a": Linux minion 3.2.0-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:41:14 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- output of "cat /sys/module/line6usb/version": 0.9.1beta (revision https://line6linux.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/line6linux/driver/trunk@972) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- output of "lsusb -v -d 0e41:": Bus 005 Device 008: ID 0e41:5057 Line6, Inc. Hello, I recently built the driver trunk source to install the drivers. I believe I was able to get it to work correctly after adding "#include <linux/module.h>" to audio.c and compiling. (I guess after looking export.h may have been the better solution.) I would like to load patches to the device. My guess is that the Pod UX2 supports midi over USB, but I wouldn't know for certain. When I plug in the device, I can find the device using the pearl script but I cannot find any of the interfaces mentioned in driverdocs.pdf that would allow me to load parameters or patches to the device. Am I do anything wrong (is this supposed to work)? If it isn't supposed to work, what would it take to get it to work? (This is one of the items on the small list of things I still have to use Windows for.) I would be happy to provide any testing, sniffing, coding or whatever else to get it to work. Best Regards, Andrew |

Is the Pod 2 supported by this software? I used to use a QT3 based app called qtpod that utilized midi->usb interface. -- aRDy Music and Rick Dicaire present: http://www.ardynet.com http://www.ardynet.com:9000/ardymusic.ogg.m3u |

Dear all, I am trying to use a TonePort UX2 together with Audacity under Ubuntu-Studio 12.04LTS. I am using the latest (2012/07/16) version of the line6usb driver. I am trying to connect a line level stereo signal via Line1 and Line2 Inputs, but I get nothing. If I turn up the microphone controls, I get some noise. Is there a way to select the line inputs instead of the mic inputs? BN |

Hi, I recently set up a poll in the Pod HD users group to get rough numbers of operating systems usage: http://line6.com/support/polls/1158 If there is a considerable number of Linux users that would see their favourite operating system supported, we may have some argument to ask Line6 for support. I don't mean that they write drivers and software. Specs would be awesome and we may write a nice driver. Again, thanks to Marcus Grabner for starting (and taking the hardest part in) this with his *great* job. Thanks! -- L. Alberto Giménez |

Dear users! I am quite new to Fedora, I'm using Fedora16, and I have met some problems trying to install the line6usb driver.
