I've opened a bug report on this topic so that we can discuss this on that
thread - http://bugs.limesurvey.org/view.php?id=5716 . We can also discuss
on this list serve and I'll paste the main discussion into the bug thread.
So, here are the questions for discussion. When I say "hidden" below, I
mean "always-hidden" via the question attribute.
(1) If a question is tailored to include a hidden variable, should that
value show, or always appear as blank?
(2) If a relevance equation references a hidden variable:
(a) On the same page - should it have access to the value, or be null?
(b) Should an on-page hidden variable be potentially dynamic? (e.g.
configure EM so that if a person updates a hidden variable on the page via
operationally, should I use a static replacement for hidden values, or
continue to use LEMval() to access it and make sure there is a <input
type="hidden" id="javaSGQA"> value for the hidden on-page variable (right
now, not even that is generated for a hidden question).
(c) Should an off-page hidden variable be potentially dynamic? (e.g.
(3) If access to hidden values should be static, should I make sure that
the hidden value never appears in the HTML (as much as possible)? For
example, say you have a hidden variable "the_password", and a data entry
field "entered_password", I assume if you have a question with relevance
equation "if(entered_password == hidden_password),'success','please try
again')" you would not want the passwords to be generated in the HTML.
Right now, that might happen, but that is easily fixable as long as all of
the variables are off page.
