I'm a BSc Computer Science student at LUMS, Pakistan and I'm
interested in doing the LimeSurvey 1: File Upload question type
through GSoC 2010. I have gone through the ideas page, and I've also
made myself familiar with LimeSurvey. I have sufficient PHP and web
development experience and I've incorporated safe file uploading
mechanisms in php web apps. By safe, I mean not only inspecting file
extension on upload, but also file contents, i.e. the data. This is
one of the most novel approaches used by careful developers.
Additional safety mechanisms include storage of uploaded file data in
the DB rather than the file system, but I read that this project
requires file storage.
Furthermore, as I'm new to LimeSurvey, I've started to spend time on
reading the documentation and code files to see how everything works.
Soon, I'm hoping to come up with a rough draft of file-based questions
in LimeSurvey 1. Would that be an appropriate direction to start
working on this project? Moreover, I would like to know what do the
mentors expect from this project and what limitations could be there.
I haven't worked on open-source projects before, but I've done quite a
handful of web-based projects like web applications/sites and software
projects in the past few years as my university coursework and
freelancing. So, it would be great if I could get some guidelines to
start working on this project and on LimeSurvey.
