The only downside to using a CC theme that has been pre-built, is that it was not built ground up for specific needs and goals.
In terms of usability I don't think we will gain anything by going this direction, and usability is one of the areas that we need to put in a lot of effort.

It is my opinion that we will gain more from doing a proper wireframe layout of each section and step and evaluate the different directions we can take to start with.
Once we have nailed down a suitable framework of how screens are broken down, and how users can access specific content / features, we can start to focus on graphic elements, color schemes, typography etc.

Hi Marcel,

I don't have any particular CC-BY theme in mind yet. I usually look for CC-BY themes in Styleshout (http://www.styleshout.com/).

Here's another option.
Not exactly creative commons, but our company usually buy themes in wrapbootstrap.com for our client projects.

Here's a couple of fairly cheap extended license administration themes which we're willing to buy for the project:
https://wrapbootstrap.com/theme/complete-administrator-WB0918M29
https://wrapbootstrap.com/theme/metro-admin-theme-metro-king-WB0GRG7H2
https://wrapbootstrap.com/theme/3-in-1-admin-front-end-e-commerce-WB0G69690

I've e-mailed support verifying which license we can use for open source projects.

What themes are you thinking of? Can you give some links and/or examples?
