#218 Make the tray icon count higher than 99

I usually have more than a hundred new items in my various feeds. Liferea showed the count on the tray icon just fine until maybe a year or two ago, but current versions stop counting after 99, which makes the count useless for me. It always says the same thing: 99+.

This patch makes Liferea handle much higher counts on the tray icon. For up to 999 items, it displays the number exactly. For 1000-99999, it displays one or two digits followed by "K", meaning kilo or thousands (using the standard metric suffix). Above that, it displays "HK+", meaning hecto-kilo or hundreds of thousands.

This approach makes the tray icon's new item count useful at much higher values than it is today, without consuming any more horizontal space than the current "99+" text.

I believe the patch will apply cleanly to both the current release candidate (1.10) and the stable version (1.8.12).

I thought about the patch some time, I do not think it should be added. "HK+" is not intuitive and actually knowing that I have "3k" or "5k" items to read is not really any type of information. It just doesn't influence my reading behaviour anymore.

So I believe above 99 items the display becomes useless anyway. Maybe it would be useful to just display another icon then.

    Best Regards,

I would like to point out a few things that seem important here:

"HK+" can easily be replaced with some other string, and a hundred thousand new items is probably so very rare that nobody will ever see it anyway, so the question of whether "HK+" is intuitive or not seems irrelevant to the issue of whether the patch (or a tweaked version of it) has value.

The difference between 5k and 10k items might not influence your reading behavior, but it would sometimes influence mine, and the difference between 100 and 2k new items definitely influences my reading behavior every single day. I doubt I'm the only one.

In short, I respectfully suggest that not everyone has the same reading habits or as small a feed list as the author has, and that this issue can easily help some of us by making a very tiny code change that has no negative effects on anybody. Perhaps you would be willing to accept a compromise that allows the count to include "1k" to "99k+", or even just show the exact count up to "1k+"? It would make a world of difference for some of us.

Here's an updated patch that makes the count max out at "9K+".
