I set INDIREC in my config file to
INDIREC=0 INDI\n1 NAME Fname/Surname\n1 SEX MF\n1
BIRT\n 2 DATE\n 2 PLAC\n 2 SOUR
When adding a person, lifelines hadn't interpolated the
\n's to newlines. It turns out that this was caused by
a compiler bug.
Compiling with gcc 4.0.1 (Fedora Core 4) the default
compiles caused this misbehavior. If the optimization
level was dropped to -O1 (from -O2) the problem went away.
