[libxml++] libxml++ branching

May I go ahead and branch libxml++ in the GNOME CVS for 2.16? I'd apply
this patch shortly thereafter:

I'm also very interested in committing the patch attached to this bug,
as it prevents me from using a stock libxml++ build:
