xmlpp::Element *el = dynamic_cast<xmlpp::Element*>(*iter);
if (!el)
  continue;
xmlpp::TextNode *t = el->get_child_text();
if (!t)
  continue;
t->get_content(); // and do something with it.

Let me know if that doesn't work.
