I've tried x11vnc on my home network and it seems
great. I have been trying to get it to work at work but
have had limited success.

I did exactly what I did at home on the first machine
and all went well. But with the second machine that I
want to install the software I don't end up with an
entry in /usr/local/bin to start it running.

I am no expert at this but nothing that looked bad
happened when compiling. This is the output:

[root@modules local]# tar -zxf x11vnc-0.6.1.tar.gz

Could you please look into the Makefile and find a line
beginning with "prefix ="? This should be /usr/local, but
    evidently it isn't...

Sorry, I didn't get it the first time. But the, you didn't
respond, too. The output of configure says quite clearly
that it didn't find X. You not only need a working X, but
also libraries and headers for x11vnc to compile yourself!
So I close this Support Request with this answer...

Sorry, I got frustrated and switched from Mandrake to Debian
where I just installed the Debain x11vnc package and it just
worked. I have since converted both my home machines and all
of the Linux machines on our work network over to Debian and
found everything so much easier. But thanks for getting back
    to me anyway.
