I am trying to install libusb-0.1.12 so that I can
install gphoto2. I have RedHat Linux 7.0 and it has
an operating system release 2.2.16-22.
I have downloaded libusb-0.1.12.tar.gz and unpacked it
tar zxvf libusb-0.1.12.tar.gz
(this was done in the /usr/lib directory)
A libusb-0.1.12 subdirectory was created and I changed
my working directory to that directory.
seemed successful, but make gave me error messages which
I do not understand. I shall attempt to attach files
containing the error messages and the output.
Thank you for any advise you can give.

That's rather old. I don't know if libusb works with 2.2 kernels. Can
you upgrade to a recent 2.4 or 2.6 kernel?

Which version of gcc is on this system? Try running gcc -v
I suspect that it's equally old and is having problems compiling the
libusb source properly. If gcc is to old you will not be able to
compile a 2.6 kernel, but 2.4 may still work.
If it is feasible, I would suggest upgrading that entire system to a
recent version of any distribution, I believe Fedora Core 4 is the
latest RedHat version.
