I'm using it as "user mode device driver". (I install the *filter* executable). I've a USB device (printer), that I'm communication with a specific printer related protocol. (doing bulk read/write) But I think you can also write a special driver if you're developing a USB device. I don't know weather this run in a "kernel mode".
