#7 What is the relation between libpng-apng and apng?

I have noticed that you, Daisuke Nishikawa, and Max Stepin at https://sf.net/p/apng are independently maintaining the apng patch. Its functionality and API seem to be exactly the same, but the details of the implementation have diverged. Some Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Arch) and Firefox are using libpng-ang, while Gentoo uses apng. Was there ever an attempt to merge these projects into one?
