Thanks, I merged your changes with some cosmetic changes and simplifications. Please let me know if the example (which I also committed as examples/other/rtc/*) still works, didn't yet have the time to test or fully review the code yet. Maybe some changes will follow (consistency renames or the like). I also added your copyright line to the rtc.c and example file.
