The script also works fine when the same files have the
extension .txt
instead of .eml, it fails miserably on the latter
extensions.
Even on a simple texfile containing the word "hello",
when you give that
file the extension .eml and run the script, it fails
(on my windows machine
at least).
Does anyone know what that's about?

I think that the problem is mimetypes.
In Zope has a dictionary of supported types, could be made
this in the libgmail, see:
