The "new" version at translationproject.org actually regressed to older
.pot file.  The one in libexif's CVS was based on the 2007-12-14 .pot file
(the latest officially released one), but the version I just rsync'ed from
tp.org is based on the 2007-06-12 .pot file.  That means it's missing a
bunch of translations that were previously done (you can see them
commented out at the end of the file).
