Did anybody used the serial port on a dc1394 camera? It is on the
standard and I need to use it but I couldn't find out how to access it.
I am using an AVT Marlin F-131B.
Any input is appreciated.

Data can be written and read in IIDC registers. However, the serial
communication functionality is not yet implemented in libdc1394. You
will therefore need to use direct register access at the offsets
specified in the IIDC specs. You can also contribute to libdc by writing
the necessary functions to use the serial port ;-)
A more elegant solution would be to have the serial port of a camera
appearing as a serial device in /dev (as a child of the camera device?)
but this is going a bit far for a feature that has almost never been

I recently released Java code, based on JNA, that wraps all common and
public functions and structures of libdc1394 2.x. It's part of this
The wrapper is fully contained in dc1394.java. It is basically a Java
version of dc1394.h, so you may strip it out if interested in that part
A word of warning though: It has not been fully tested.
(I think the GPL-related licensing stuff is all right, but please let me
know if there are any potential issues, or any requests at all about
other things, thank you.)
