In fact, I'm not quite as careless as my previous posting indicated --
in my own app, I'm forced to bypass camwire and use libdc1394 directly
to set the gain and brightness controls of the camera because there's no
(obvious) camwire API for doing so. Furthermore, my GUI requires the
allowable range info to set sliders. So in my app for the sake of
consistency, in addition to bypassing camwire for brightness and gain,
I've also done so for shutter speed. I now see that this has caused a
problem because camwire sets the shutter speed to its (falsely) shadowed
value after I changed the frame size, "restoring" a shutter speed to a
long time value.
So, this explains the situation in my own app, and when I "confirmed" it
in cammonitor, I thought I had a simple bug reproduction in a minimal
program but obviously I didn't double check.
(This email could be viewed as a camwire feature request for brightness
and gain to be added to camwire and for querying the camera's supported
range of values.)
