interlacer should auto stretch images vertically. This
would have memory usage impacts as images would only
need resizing horizontally before passing in.

Not sure how much benefit resizing horizontally as well
would have - may not even be feasible.

Vertical resizing has benefits when producing alignment
and calibration strips.
