I think I see what you mean; if the lift to the left of the slime pool is up,
then it's possible that the player - or an enemy - might push the boulder into
the bottom of the lift shaft, from where it cannot be retrieved. A similar
thing could happen with the boulder on the right of the slime pool too.
I don't think there is a reset switch for it. There are four reset switches in
the fortress mine map - but they all operate mine carts. There are three small
boulders, but none of them have reset switches.
However, even if you do get the boulder stuck, I don't think it makes the game
unwinnable, because you should still be able to exit the mine via the
"hazardous" route.

I've got the rock the left grabber in the fortress mine stuck. Is there a
