[Ldap-users-questions] Adding LDAP user

Hello Gurus,
I am new to LDAP .

when i added a user geetha using ldapmodify command i
got the following...

adding new entry
uid=geetha,ou=People,o=cdfd.org.in,dc=cdfd,dc=org,dc=in

Now i created a home directory for user geetha and
when i try to change uid using chown command got the
following error..

chown -R geetha geetha

chown: unknown user id geetha

when i checked nsswitch.conf ldap was not included and
i included 

passwd: files ldap

but still getting the same error...
if i have changed nsswitch.conf should i have to stop
and start some process
