I do have ldap-user configured for the correct LDAP server and the binddn and password are correct. Now the only thing that is different is that I'm connecting to an LDAP server. The LDAP server doesn't reside on the system with this module so slapd isn't running on this machine. Shouldn't the module work if slapd is running on the system that it's connecting to? Well, usually it either means a) slapd isn't running b) ldap-users isn't configured for the correct LDAP server or possibly c) the binddn & password are wrong, but I'd expect that to give a different error.
