In automake 1.11.3, statements such as pkglib_PROGRAMS lead to an error, as is visible in this excerpt from a Ubuntu buildlog:
Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) at /usr/bin/autoreconf line 196.
configure.in:10: installing `./config.guess'
configure.in:10: installing `./config.sub'
configure.in:6: installing `./install-sh'
configure.in:6: installing `./missing'
clients/lcdexec/Makefile.am: installing `./depcomp'
server/drivers/Makefile.am:23: `pkglibdir' is not a legitimate directory for `PROGRAMS'
autoreconf: automake failed with exit status: 1
make: *** [override_dh_auto_configure] Error 1
make: Leaving directory `/build/buildd/lcdproc-0.5.5'
make: *** [build] Error 2
In Ubuntu, I added the attached patch as a workaround to allow building lcdproc again.
