Using the provided pulgin I had succesfully got it
working on a hd44780 based LCD with no problems at
all. This was on my PIII 1GHz system. However, when
testing it on the pc it was going to live on I noticed
a few problems...

When displaying the information there were odd
characters substituted with others. Also it then went
on to print line two again on line three. Finally it
stopped working at all either reverting back to
preinitialiazed state of full black row and off row
and repeating, or to a screen full of random
characters.
All the wiring looks fine to me although I will be
checking it again.

Specs of the system in use:
Pentium II 233Mhz
128Mb Ram
Via tech motherboard (dont know which)
One parallel port not using ECP. (which the other
system apparently is)

Latest proper (non-beta) version of winamp.
Win98 SE
(software same on both systems)

LCD is 20x4 HD44780 not sure of make off the top of my
head.

I'm experiencing the same problems, but only when I use the
LCD with a full wire parallel kabel of 1.8m. A small
flatcable (about 40cm) directly connected to the mainboard
works fine. I think there is a small timing problem, because
other LCD progs don't seem to have the same problem.

I finally somehow solved the glitching problem. Not
entirely sure why it was happening but here's how:

In the Bios I changed the parallel port from SSP -
standard, to ECP - extended, and now there are no glitches
at all... :) Not sure why this should have changed anything
    but there you have it.

    Cheers,
    Ben
