sorry for the noise - I managed to get it to work by using the 
"--with-plugins" directive properly (for some reason I missed that 
yesterday).

Attached is a patch (against HEAD in CVS) for plugins.m4 which seems to 
fix the problem that something like "--with-plugins=all,!mysql" didn't work.
