Well, I always use the ./bootstrap commands whenever I change something
in the autoconf/make files. Just to be sure...

Hmmm... I have no idea.

Someone with deeper knowledge of the autconf/automake subsystem should
have a look at the python.m4 file. I can't see any error in there.
