Michael, An update from my side, I have to apologize for this but after updating my version of lcd4linux I never tried using the init.d script to try stop the process - just assuming I would need to do it manually - but today I tried starting it the way I have been but using the init.d script to stop it after each sleep period and so far it looks great. So again I am sorry for wasting your time - but it has been a learning curve so thank you for a great piece of software.
