Well, lcd4linux tries to be quite intelligent in sending only stuff to
the display that is really necessary. Which menas it will send changes
only. Your configuration is kind of 'static', because the text never
changes. So there are no further writes to the display, therefore no
writes will fail, therefore no abort will occur.

That's why Ernst suggested to use some changing widgets, like an
animated icon.
