What was the previous file which you just deleted? major/minor number?
Although your command looks fine to me...

Okay, this means that the device sends something which doesnt look like
a response from a 635....

what happens if you run the same command, but with the display *not*
connected? maybe there's any other device which sits on /dev/ttyUSB0?
